Vendredi 30/09.
[English version]
Here are some news and stories from our Italian adventures! A country where the standard of living is quite contrasted between the north and the south, but the quality of the meals remains constant😁
Sunday. Indeed it was shady, the stage between Como and Bergamo is surely the least interesting that we have done so far... The view on the lakes which border the road is not as beautiful as expected, we do not manage to find a satisfactory rhythm! In short it is time to arrive and to find a good spot of bivouac. On the satellite view, Cam had located a grove in edge of road in which we find a cleared spot in the forest which will make perfectly the affair!
Monday. It is at the time of folding our things that we realize that the clearing had not to be arranged all alone... Indeed the old man who arrives towards us the three fingers of the right hand plated against the thumb and the frowned eyebrows must be there for something 😅 After some explanations in a wobbly Italian, and the sight of Zélie (the "Blondina") the situation calms down! We gather our things and we leave quickly.
It is unanimous, this evening we sleep in the camp-site it is sure! After 4 days of bivouac it is time to take a real shower and to find a minimum of comfort.
Today we test a new method of orientation, we are fed up with being the nose in the map on our phones. We look at the route before leaving and we note a list of villages by which we have to pass. That works just as well and we find that all three much more ludic (sorry Michel we still have a little difficulty to do without Google maps in the city centers).
[1st Picture]
We arrive at Brescia by following the panels as children would make a game of track, it is already 12 am and that falls well because we are hungry. We expected not much of this city which turns out to be magnificent with big sunny places and beautiful monuments! Small restaurant in the sun or the concept of the dishes of paste in entrance makes the unanimity.
[2d Picture]
The afternoon is spent under a radiant sun, small pause to the decathlon to recover our order (and yeah we are really super well organized 😉). The shelves of gas remain empty and the bottle of gasoline not being much more filled: we thus buy a bottle of "petrolio bianco" by hoping to succeed in making heat our pasta without blowing up everything... The arrival (in descent) to the Lago Di Garda is magnificent, the camp-site which we had chosen is perfect. Meal of kings at the edge of the water, unfortunately shortened by the storm which will not cease of the night!
[3d Picture]
Tuesday. We do not know too much what to make, our laundry of the day before is soaked and the weather for the days to come is uncertain. In short the motivation to go back in the saddle is not necessarily present... After having checked the price of the camp-site we decide to make one day of pause at the edge of the lake, a shower of more can not make us evil. We take advantage of it to change the fuel of the stove, which in spite of a smell of service station and a time of preheating much longer allows to cook our good small dishes. We will not dwell on the brilliant idea of Adrien to burn the remainder of escence C in a glass jar that he overturns on the place .... (don't panic, everyone is fine, except Camille's pair of socks that were lying around). Drawings, swimming, nap and reading punctuate the rest of this day of break.
[4th Picture]
Wednesday 28 Sept. That's it we leave Padenghe, we recharged well the batteries: we slept, we made go up the morale and the external batteries spent the night connected in the toilets (we were not going to pay the electricity ^^). We can then move towards more crazy.
Verona: bridge of red bricks, monuments and beautiful frontages, castles and arenas, gelati in front of the house of Romeo and Juliette, the sun on the bell-towers, the smiles are again appeased.
[5th and 6th Pictures]
Zig-zag in the vineyards, the kilometers are swallowed. We go towards a castle, Soave the fortified city, like children attracted by the knights.
[7th Picture]
And if we took a small coffee? But impossible Wine bar of everywhere, Vino shop... they even propose us to fill our gourds with red!
Tired of the 90 km that we have in the legs, decided not to (still) go up and push the bikes, we learn each one a sentence: siamo 3 viaggiatori in bicicletta. Not very productive return and as we were not motivated to put the tent on the asphalt of the area of camping car, we throw our devolu on the lawn of the playground. Beyond not having been kicked out we are even offered water and electricity. The children of the village come to play soccer in front of us half intrigued half afraid, but when they send their precious ball behind the gates of an abandoned house, and that Adrien (O great hero) came to the rescue of one of them remained blocked on the sharp peaks of the fence, our presence did not become a problem any more. Peaceful night.
Thursday 29/09. If the day before we escaped the announced rain, this morning it is not the same. We swallowed quietly our toasts of peanut butter when a first drop arrives followed by all its friends, and this time they do not laugh. Rattle-bas of combat, to put away the breakfast, to close the bags, to put in the shelter all that sucks and to put on the gore-tex. Adri and Zélie are ready, which is not the case for everybody. There is still the green tent (the 2nd tent that serves as a shelter for our stuff) where the eternal restart of Cam's panniers takes place. Our shorts are soaking for the day.
[8th, 9th and tenth Picture]
Finally we ride rather dry, and it is the spray of the wheel of the one in front which covers us with mud, cruel dilemma between taking the vacuum or being dry! SS (Strada Statali equivalent to a national road in our country), big trucks, and threatening rain give rhythm to this "superb" morning. The Nutella croissant in Vicenza and the bike path on the old railroad under the sun restore the picture a bit. The bivouac will be set up before the evening storm and the freshly acquired tarp will allow us to play UNO in the dry (and Adrien to catch up his score ^^).
[11th and 12th Pictures]
Friday 30/09. We recover the cycle track until Treviso. Gloomy but dry weather. The new fuel odor pump dissuades a storage in a bag, it thus travels on the carrier gourd of Adrien. As there are 2 free eyelets left on Zélie's frame, she proudly decides to buy a new water bottle holder to put Adrien's 2nd bottle. But 10€ for a piece of plastic that doesn't fit is a shame! Still a good deal ^^
We find a pizzeria where we find Damien who comes from Bolzano to ride with us some days. 60 km under the rain separate us from the house of Adriano and Valentina (the sister of Elena, friend of the parents of Adrien). Long afternoon in the aspi of Damien on his gravel light (which loaded makes the weight of our empty bikes), exchanging kindly with us his bike so that we rest. The rain which at the beginning was almost pleasant, too cool we have the dry feet, becomes a deluge, aquaplaning in every turn, we drip.
[13th Picture]
The house of our hosts, dry, warm, friendly island is saving. We are welcomed with open arms, with a hot shower and the best focaccia we have ever eaten :)
Valentina's parents join us for the meal (with a maxi chocolate cake and Verduzzo Friulano....). After this happy feast, the heads turning of all this wine, we join our beds to recover from this big day.
[14th Picture]
A huge thank you for this welcome, which moreover fell at the right time after the rain!
Saturday. Small day in the sun to finish drying. Damien opens us the way on the small roads, whereas we are overtaken by a pack of racing bikes (we did not succeed in remaining in their wheels...) We decide to stop at the end of about fifty kilometers in the Roman city of Palmanova to spend the night there. We find a grassy zone not far from the walls of the city which is perfect.
Sunday. We leave for an archaeological stage, of Palmanova to Aquileia, city of a notable importance of the Roman empire and where several architectural vestiges are visible. Nice, but not the time to linger too much, we want to see the meeeeer!
Crossing of the big dike of Grado, access in cycle track, royal arrival on the coast!
[15th and 16th Pictures]
We are very happy, a coffee/cioccolato pause in the small city center of this tourist mini city and we put back in saddle to join Monfalcone, by the tracks of the coast. Big picnic and sacred good nap (we take advantage of it to begin to write you this sacred pavement, that we finished this evening) and zouuu! 20 km separate us from our destination of this evening, above Trieste. We are once again welcomed like kings at Frédérica's, a friend of Adrien's contact who definitely facilitates us these last stages!
Tomorrow it is the exit of Italy, small pause planned in Slovenia before leaving the EU, by following the Croatian coast!
PS : thanks for your little comments, it's so nice, keep it up ♡
PPS : This english version has been translated with Deepl, otherwise it would have taken us sooooo long to rewrite it all... Please excuse us if you find any mistake in it 🌻
